Drayton Valley, Alberta -- Fix Auto Drayton Valley celebrated its first months in the community with a barbecue, drawing around 300 residents and raising more than $1,500 for Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.
Families lined up for free burgers and hot dogs, children bounced through inflatable castles and staff handed out 150 pumpkins to mark the fall season. A community raffle featuring prizes donated by local businesses added to the day’s success.
Office manager Tina Sic said the event was a way to thank residents for their support and give back to those who trust the shop with their vehicles.
“We’re new to the community, so we wanted to thank the community and give back to the people who trust us with their cars,” said Sic. “With people really struggling to make ends meet, sports enrolment is falling to the side, so we decided to raise money for Jumpstart.”
Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities works to remove financial barriers to sport and recreation, helping children access registration, equipment and community programs across Canada.
Sic said community gatherings like this one are vital in smaller towns.
“Events like these are extremely important, especially when you live in a small area,” she said. “We don’t get a chance to thank the community enough.”
The event was supported by local partners including IGA Drayton Valley and Canadian Tire Drayton Valley, whose contributions and prize donations helped make the fundraiser possible.
