Hyundai Motor Group is expanding its partnership with NVIDIA to advance autonomous driving technology, including the deployment of Level 2 and higher systems in select vehicles.

The collaboration centres on NVIDIA’s DRIVE Hyperion platform, combining Hyundai Motor Group’s software-defined vehicle capabilities, global fleet data and autonomous driving development capabilities with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing, AI infrastructure and software.

“The expanded partnership with NVIDIA marks an important milestone in realizing Hyundai Motor Group’s vision for safe and reliable autonomous driving technology,” said Heung-Soo Kim, executive vice-president and head of global strategy office at Hyundai Motor Group.

Under the agreement, a common platform will be used across Hyundai vehicle models, with capabilities ranging from driver-assistance features to more advanced automated driving, with initial deployment planned for select production vehicles.

The scope of the collaboration also extends to Kia, as well as Motional, Hyundai Motor Group’s autonomous driving joint venture.

“The future of mobility will be built on AI and software,” said Rishi Dhall, vice-president of automotive at NVIDIA. “We’re combining Hyundai Motor Group’s leadership in vehicle engineering with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and AI to build safe, intelligent, NVIDIA DRIVE-based autonomous driving systems — from advanced driver assistance in select production vehicles to scalable robotaxi services with Motional.”

The process will include collecting driving data, training and testing AI systems, and rolling out updates to production vehicles.
