A little heat and humidity did nothing to dampen the spirits of the golfers at this year's CHC Paint and Body Shop Supplies charity golf tournament at Cedar Brae Golf Club in Scarborough. For the past eight years, the event has become the collision repair industry's unofficial start of summer, bringing together shop owners, suppliers, insurers and this year, the full team from Collision Repair magazine.
"This is what the industry looks like when it gets out of the shop and onto the fairway," said Manny Pacheco, Vice-President of CHC Paint and Body Shop Supplies. "Eight years in, and what strikes me every time is the energy on the course. Shops talking to suppliers, insurers talking to shops, everyone just connecting. No agenda. No pressure. That is what we set out to build and it is exactly what this has become."
"There is nothing quite like getting together with friends and colleagues, enjoying a beautiful day on the course and knowing that every shot you take is contributing to a great cause like the Canadian Cancer Society,” said Mike Savage, national account manager at 3M. The tournament captures everything that makes this industry special. Days like this remind you how strong this community really is.”
More than 120 golfers took to the fairways, chasing birdies, celebrating the occasional spectacular shot and doing their best to forget the ones that found the rough. Prizes generously donated by industry supporters helped make the day an even bigger success for the Canadian Cancer Society.
"We started this tournament because we believed in this community," said Pino Chiappetta, President of CHC Paint and Body Shop Supplies. "What we have watched it grow into, the relationships built here, the conversations that happen between holes, the way people show up for each other and for a cause like the Canadian Cancer Society, that is bigger than anything we planned. This is the unofficial start of summer. Every year, without fail."
All proceeds from this year's tournament will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.
