Transport Canada and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will bring together the international road safety community in Toronto from May 12 to 15 for the 28th International Technical Conference on Enhanced Vehicle Safety, a global forum focused on advancing vehicle safety technologies and reducing road deaths.
The conference will take place at Exhibition Place and is expected to draw participants from government, industry, academia and non-governmental organizations.
“Canada is proud to host the international road safety community in Toronto for the 2026 Vehicle Safety Improvement Conference,” said Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon. “By bringing together scientists, regulators, and industry leaders, we are fostering the innovation and cooperation that will shape the next generation of vehicle safety systems and strengthen our collective efforts to make roads safer around the world.”
“The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is committed to strengthening road safety, and the ESV continues to be at the forefront of technological innovation,” said Jonathan Morrison, administrator of the U.S. agency.
Held under the theme “spurring innovation: technologies for safer vehicles,” the conference will highlight developments in collision prevention, automated driving technologies, active and passive safety systems, cybersecurity and data-driven research.
Organizers cite nearly 1.2 million road fatalities worldwide each year, underscoring the need for international collaboration and innovation.
The program will include technical and plenary sessions, vehicle demonstrations, interactive tours and presentations from safety experts, with a focus on harmonization, emerging risks and next-generation safety standards.
First launched in 1970, the biennial conference rotates between North America, Europe and Asia and serves as a key forum for global collaboration on vehicle safety research and policy.
