Edmonton, Alberta — A novice appraiser from CARSTAR Edmonton North finished as the company’s top seller during an Edmonton Oilers 50-50 draw that raised money for Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
Vehicle damage appraiser Ella Moore sold electronic raffle tickets alongside more than 30 CARSTAR volunteers from Edmonton and Wetaskiwin at Rogers Place.
During the event, team members could see a live leaderboard showing how their ticket sale totals compared while the raffle was open.
According to CARSTAR Edmonton North's owner, Albert LeBlanc, this provided motivation for Moore, who, by the end of the night, had raised more than anyone else. “I think it sparked her competitive nature… It speaks to her willingness to achieve a goal.”
He also said Moore’s effort stood out, especially given that she had only joined the bodyshop in Novemeber. "Even though she's new, she's fitting into the culture and getting to know the systems we use here at the facility.”
The Oilers 50-50 draw splits its total ticket sales in half: one half goes to the jackpot winner and the other is donated. For this game, the donation went to Cystic Fibrosis Canada through the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation. Tickets were sold to fans at the game and to Albertans buying online.
This was the second time this year that CARSTAR volunteers helped with an Oilers 50-50 fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Canada. The total amount raised has not yet been disclosed.
