Toronto, Ontario -- On Friday, October 4, more than 150 auto racing enthusiasts gathered at Toronto Motorsports Park for the Police and Community Educating Racers Open Lap Day, an event promoting safe, legal racing and responsible driving.
Founded in 2002 by Paint Source Automotive Supplies co-founder and director of sales Mathew John, the PACER program is a community-driven initiative aims to reduce illegal street racing through education and engagement. It operates as a partnership between law enforcement, the automotive industry and the racing community.
According to John, this year's event saw a surge of drivers without racing experience participate in the event.
“We’ve brought a lot of new drivers who haven’t experienced racing,” said John. “We’ve also been able to bring the price down by securing corporate sponsorships.”
This year, spectators paid $20 while drivers registered for $40 to take part in supervised high-speed sessions on a closed track.
The event was supported by Paint Source Automotive Supplies as the primary sponsor, alongside PBE Distribution, AkzoNobel, 3M, Norton, Tire Stock, CSN Alliance and Mesh Mistry Real Estate.
"Thanks to our corporate sponsors, we were able to lower the cost of participating this year," said John. "We're thrilled to see so many people get involved."
