Stellantis, Wayve and Uber have partnered to develop and deploy Level 4 robotaxis globally, Stellantis announced on June 17. The partnership unites Stellantis’ L4-Ready Platforms, Wayve’s AI driving technology and Uber’s global marketplace to control the next-generation driverless fully autonomous vehicles.

The companies will also build on their existing strategic relationships, including Stellantis and Wayve’s recent L2++ agreement and Wayve and Uber’s partnership to deploy autonomous rides in 12 cities around the world.

In the partnership, the companies intend to commercialize autonomy through vehicles, technology and platform.

Stellantis will be responsible for the vehicle and integration side of operations, as it designs, engineers and manufactures at scale vehicles built on advanced L4-Ready Platforms. These vehicles have embedded sensor suites and meet all operational, safety and redundancy requirements necessary for high-utilization driverless operations.

Wayve will supply the AI driving software, technology that is built with its end-to-end AI driving approach, which can adapt across different regions and driving conditions without depending on re-engineering or city-by-city mapping.

Uber will be responsible for deploying the robotaxis on its global mobility network, scaling operations across markets and providing riders with autonomous rides through the Uber app.

“This collaboration brings us closer to delivering a smarter, safer and more efficient mobility for our customers,” said Ned Curic, chief engineering and technology officer at Stellantis, in the press release. “By combining our L4-Ready Platforms, designed from the ground up for safe and efficient driverless operation, with Wayve’s adaptive AI and Uber’s global network, we are accelerating the deployment of autonomous vehicles that meet real customer needs and enable seamless mobility at scale in everyday life.”

The companies plan to work together on vehicle integration, testing, validation and deployment throughout the collaboration, to bring safe, reliable and scalable autonomous mobility services to cities worldwide.

“This partnership brings together three leaders, each with our own strengths: Stellantis’ vehicle expertise, Uber’s global mobility platform and Wayve’s embodied AI,” said Kaity Fischer, Wayve’s V-P of commercial & operations, in the press release. “This is just another strong signal that the industry is converging around Wayve’s technology as the way to scale AVs globally, and we’re excited to continue working with Stellantis and Uber to accelerate the promise of autonomy.”

The non-binding Memorandum of Understanding sets up a framework for future technology development, licensing, production and vehicle procurement agreements. Each company can still engage with additional autonomous vehicle collaborations.
