Toronto, Ontario -- If your car suddenly starts suggesting restaurants, telling bedtime stories and answering trivia questions — don’t panic. It might just be SoundHound’s new in-vehicle voice assistant.
SoundHound AI says its next-generation voice interface has officially launched across three global automotive brands in North America — a move the company calls a significant leap forward in connected car technology.
The assistant, known as SoundHound Chat AI Automotive, combines automatic speech recognition with large language models and generative AI. Unlike traditional voice systems, it’s designed to engage in fluid, back-and-forth conversations — understanding context, handling follow-up questions and accessing multiple real-time data sources at once.
Drivers can request information like weather forecasts, sports scores or restaurant recommendations, then continue the conversation without needing to repeat earlier details. The system can also handle vehicle-specific questions — including owner’s manual content, service interval schedules or warnings from in-vehicle sensors.
The company says the assistant is built to meet the expectations of modern drivers — fast, flexible, and capable of navigating both information and in-car controls without missing a beat.
The rollout includes a wide range of vehicle models under a major global OEM group. Specific brand or model names were not disclosed.
Earlier this year, SoundHound introduced a voice commerce platform that integrates restaurant ordering, loyalty programs and navigation. The company cited research projecting in-car voice commerce could generate up to US$35 billion in annual revenue for automakers, though no timeline for that estimate was provided.
