Chad M. Carney is being announced as the next president of 3M's automotive aftermarket division. Carney will succeed Dave Gunderson, who will retire on Oct. 1.
Carney is a 27-year veteran of the St. Paul, Minn.-based manufacturer and currently serves as global vice-president of product strategy in 3M's Personal Safety Division. He previously served as vice-president of the Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division.
“I am honoured and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Automotive Aftermarket Division,” Carney said. “Dave has built a strong foundation — one defined by a focus on our customers and genuine care for our people.”
During his career with 3M, Carney has focused on manufacturing improvements, risk management and continuous improvement in his current role. The Personal Safety Division has recorded seven consecutive quarters of growth during his tenure.
Gunderson will retire after 38 years with 3M, including eight years leading the automotive aftermarket division.
He joined 3M in 1988 and has worked across its automotive, aerospace, marine and industrial businesses. In 2008, Gunderson led 3M's acquisition of Meguiar's and became the car-care company's first director and chief operating officer under 3M.
“What stands out most as I reflect on my journey with 3M is gratitude — for the people, the partnerships, and the opportunity to help shape the future of the collision repair industry,” Gunderson said.
Gunderson said his priorities during his eight years leading the division included listening to collision repair customers and developing repair solutions, training and tools aimed at productivity, profitability and OEM-standard repairs.
