AutoCanada has acquired Contemporary Coachworks, adding two Calgary collision repair facilities and about 30,000 sq. ft. of repair capacity to its network.
Edmonton-based AutoCanada Inc. is a multi-location automobile dealership and collision repair group. The publicly traded business, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under ACQ, announced the acquisition June 8.
Contemporary Coachworks is a Calgary-based collision repair business with more than 40 years of operating history. The two facilities serve north and south Calgary.
The acquisition establishes AutoCanada’s first luxury collision repair platform in Calgary. Contemporary Coachworks holds certifications across 15 OEM brands, including Tesla, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Volvo, Acura and Volkswagen.
Samuel Cochrane, chief executive officer and interim chief financial officer of AutoCanada, stated in the release that Contemporary Coachworks has built a strong reputation for quality repairs, customer service and OEM-certified expertise.
“This acquisition expands our presence in Calgary, strengthens our luxury collision capabilities, and creates opportunities to enhance our collision operations through shared best practices and our OEM and insurance relationships,” Cochrane stated.
According to the release, the acquisition is expected to increase AutoCanada’s repair capacity in Calgary and help retain collision repair volume within its network during periods of elevated demand, including severe weather and hail events.
AutoCanada’s dealership operations segment includes 64 franchised dealerships in Canada across 23 automotive brands and eight provinces, along with three independent used-vehicle dealerships. Its U.S. franchise dealerships operate as Leader Automotive Group and include 10 franchised dealerships in Illinois.
The release listed 35 collision centres in AutoCanada’s collision centre operations segment after the acquisition. The centres are supported by 26 OEM certifications covering 37 vehicle brands.
