Toronto, Ontario -- The Boyd Group, under the Assured Automotive brand, has expanded into Atlantic Canada with the acquisition of five collision repair centres in Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia.
The acquisitions mark the company’s first move east of Ontario and its entrance into a new province for its Canadian division.
The locations acquired previously operated as Chapman Autobody in the Halifax Regional Municipality and as Steve Lewis Autobody and Mark Forrest Autobody in Sydney.
Together, the businesses have served their communities for more than 40 years and hold strong reputations as leading independent repair centres in their markets.
“We are extremely excited to enter the Atlantic Canada market with the acquisition of these five stores which have a long history of operational excellence, strong leadership and deep community roots in the Maritimes,” said Stephen Boyd, chief operating officer Canada Collision. “We look forward to working with our new team mates to grow our business and continue to deliver the same high standard of local care and quality that our customers and insurance partners count on.”
At the centre of the acquisition is Kelvin Campbell, who built Chapman Autobody over a 32-year career and has now joined Assured’s Canadian leadership team in a new operational role for the Maritimes. The opportunity, Campbell said, arrived at a moment when he was reconsidering what the next stage of his life could look like.
“To have this encounter presented to me when it wasn’t even on my radar is amazing. This is a great company to work for. It hasn’t even been a week and I’ve been welcomed with open arms,” Campbell said.
Reflecting on the milestones that shaped his shop’s growth, Campbell cited purchasing his first building, earning BMW certification and joining the Coyote Vision performance group.
“Becoming BMW certified changed the trajectory of how we operate and taught me so much,” he said.
Expansion followed with a second location in 2016 and a third in 2021.
Looking ahead, Campbell said his new role offers fresh opportunities. “I’m looking forward to helping expand the growth, meeting other body shop owners who are ready to execute their exit and guiding them through that process,” he said.
Campbell summed up the move simply. “As an independent body shop owner, how far can you go? With a company like The Boyd Group there are endless possibilities.”
