Alain McDermott (second from right) is becoming the new manager of ProColor Collision Cowansville in Quebec.
McDermott is part of the third generation of his family to be involved in the business. His sons are also involved in day-to-day operations.
The shop was founded by McDermott’s grandfather who died in road accident in 1974. The shop was then managed by Alain's grandmother and, later, by his father.
McDermott joined his father in the mid-1990s to help deal with an increase in demand. In the 2000s, business later joined the ProColor Collision.
“This has always been about perseverance and family,” he said. “What began as a difficult moment in our history became the foundation for what we’ve built over the years. With this fourth generation now playing an active role, we are proud to continue moving forward while honouring where we came from.”
ProColor Collision Cowansville also supports local youth and community programs, including scholarships, work-study opportunities and local causes.
“For me, it’s more than running a business. It’s about taking on a leadership role by promoting a positive, respectful environment where our team feels valued every day and by carrying that same leadership mindset beyond our doors and into the surrounding neighbourhoods we serve,” said McDermott. “We believe it is our responsibility to create opportunities and give back in a meaningful way.”
The shop has also added advanced driver-assistance system calibration and an automated paint mixing system. It has expanded its workforce, added industry certifications and invested in equipment, training and facility expansion.
“ProColor Collision Cowansville is a strong example of how a family business can pivot and adapt while staying true to its roots,” said Éric Levéillé, regional vice-president for Quebec at Fix Network. “Alain and his team have built a resilient operation that combines tradition, human-centred values, and a future-focused approach to technology and service.”
