Cochrane, who has served as AutoCanada’s chief financial officer since 2020, steps into the top role as the company begins its search for a permanent CEO. Known for his financial expertise and operational insight, he has played a key role in the company’s growth and restructuring efforts across its North American network.
Lead independent director, Chris Harris, said Cochrane’s understanding of AutoCanada’s business made him a natural choice to aid the transition.
“Sam is an experienced and widely respected executive who understands our business,” said Harris. “His deep knowledge of our operations and strong relationships with our team and stakeholders position him well to lead during this important time.”
Harris, who has been on AutoCanada’s board since 2021, has also been appointed chair following the departure of executive chair Paul Antony. Antony, who led AutoCanada’s turnaround after joining in 2018, will remain involved with the company in an advisory role until the end of 2026. The board credited his leadership with strengthening the company’s foundation and positioning it for continued growth.
The board has begun its search for a permanent CEO, though no timeline has been announced.
AutoCanada operates 64 franchised dealerships across eight Canadian provinces and 13 U.S. locations under its Leader Automotive Group. The company represents 23 automotive brands in Canada and nine in the U.S.
