OEM Guidance: GM revises ADAS parts and bumper fascia positions

Gm

Two revised General Motors collision position statements have added stronger restrictions on replacement ADAS components and bumper fascias.

The ADAS statement, dated June 2, 2026, limits collision repairs to new GM Genuine radar units, cameras, sensors, control modules, wiring, brackets, mounting hardware and related components.

Salvaged, recycled, reconditioned, remanufactured, aftermarket and other secondary-market ADAS components are now described as “not approved and strictly prohibited.”

The move comes after several other recent revisions. An earlier version issued in March said aftermarket and non-genuine parts in ADAS sensor areas were not recommended. An April 23 revision changed the wording for secondary-market ADAS components to “not approved.”

The June 2 version added the strict prohibition and the requirement for new GM Genuine components.

The June statement lists previous collision damage, improper storage or handling, unapproved manufacturing or reconditioning and differences from GM specifications as possible concerns. It states that these conditions may affect reliability, calibration accuracy or system performance.

A separate bumper fascia statement dated June 23, 2026, adds the words “and strictly prohibits” to the restriction on aftermarket, reconditioned and salvage fascias used with ADAS.

The underlying bumper repair requirements did not change. A fascia requiring substrate repair must be replaced. Filler and reinforcement tape cannot be used. Refinishing is permitted when the total coating thickness does not exceed 13 mils and is verified with a gauge designed for non-metallic surfaces.

The statement also requires a new GM Genuine fascia when replacement is necessary on an ADAS-equipped vehicle.

Both statements provide that damage, failure or nonperformance resulting from non-GM parts, accessories or modifications is not covered by the GM New Vehicle Limited Warranty or GM service plans.
