Talent Tribute: Fix celebrates International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Trib

The Fix Network World marked the International Day of Women and Girls in Science by spotlighting a technician whose work underscores the scientific foundation of modern collision repair.

Observed annually on Feb. 11, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 to promote full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls. The day highlights the persistent gender gap across STEM fields and encourages organizations to elevate female role models in technical disciplines.

In a social media post, franchise officials profiled Emelie Ludewig, a vehicle painter at Fix Auto Dresden Nord in Germany.

"Meet Emelie Ludewig, vehicle painter at Fix Auto Dresden Nord. Vehicle painting may look like a craft from the outside, but it is powered by science every day. From colour formulation to surface chemistry to advanced coatings, her work relies on precision, experimentation and a strong understanding of materials."

Modern refinishing relies on precise paint-mixing systems, controlled curing environments and a working knowledge of material behaviour, particularly as vehicle substrates and coating technologies evolve.

Officials added that representation matters in technical fields, as visibility can encourage more girls and young women to consider careers in science-driven industries.

“Her journey shows that scientific talent grows in many environments, not only in labs or classrooms," franchise officials wrote. "It grows in workshops, training centres and any place where curiosity and hands-on learning come together. Her story also reinforces why representation matters. When women see their strengths reflected in technical fields, they help open the door for the next generation of girls who are ready to explore science in new ways."
