STANDARD AUTO WRECKERS
Staying grounded and focused on the local market keeps profitability strong in uncertain times

With headquarters in Toronto and locations in Port Hope and Ottawa, Gold says his focus remains on building local strength and longterm systems.
“We buy local and sell local,” he said. “It’s local people buying from local people. That’s the nature of auto recycling. Our customers are loyal, and each one buys a little — but together, it creates a very stable business. It insulates us from a lot of external threats.” Rather than being distracted by macroeconomic challenges, Gold focuses on the aspects of the business he can control: employee engagement, community relationships, strong customer service and core operational performance.
Gold’s work isn’t limited to his own yard. A past president of the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) and current board member of United Recyclers Group (URG), he has advocated for better access to OEM repair data, improved accreditation frameworks, and stronger industry collaboration. In December, Standard Auto Wreckers was one of seven high-profile Canadian auto recycling companies to join Mitchell International’s parts distribution network.
Now more than four decades into the business, Gold said his focus is on keeping the company — and the industry — moving forward. “This industry has given a lot to my family. My job now is to pass on what I’ve learned.”
