Founder and owner Sal Polletta, who started the business in 1983, has guided its growth from a small operation to more than 200,000 square feet of warehouse space across Canada.

“We’re always expanding. We add new part numbers every month,” Polletta says. Today, Monidex operates 150,000 square feet in Montreal and another 50,000 square feet in Dartmouth, with plans to consolidate the Montreal facilities into a single building of more than 200,000 square feet. “It would let us stop duplicating operations and make us even more efficient.”

Monidex’s core strength is its role as a onestop source for collision parts. The company stocks bumpers, reinforcements, grilles, cooling systems, lighting and, increasingly, parts for EV models. “If CAPA offers a certified part, we carry it,” Polletta says. Unlike many competitors, Monidex keeps inventory for both current models and older vehicles. “Sometimes we’re the only ones in the market with that part. We plan that far ahead.”

That planning advantage comes from a direct supply-chain pipeline from Asia. With containers arriving in both Montreal and Halifax, the company bypasses U.S. tariff exposure and reduces transit complexity. But long lead times — often more than 60 days — mean forecasting is critical. “You have to think three months ahead. You can’t run out. We always have containers on the water.”

Polletta has also invested heavily in logistics. With 22 to 23 delivery trucks and automated routing, Monidex prioritizes speed and predictability. “It eliminates guesswork for our drivers and lets us cover Quebec and the Maritimes efficiently.” Growth in Ontario, Canada’s largest market, is accelerating through partnerships with wholesalers.

The biggest challenge, he says, is rapid model proliferation. “There are so many manufacturers and part numbers now. You need the data, the planning, the inventory — otherwise you can’t keep up.”

After four decades, Monidex is still evolving, and Polletta is clear about the company’s mission: “We want to be the supplier that recyclers, repair shops and distributors can always rely on. That’s been our goal since day one.”
