SGI’s Northern Wildfire Support – a Team Effort

Canada’s 2025 wildfire season was the second-worst on record. The widespread fires led to tens of thousands of evacuations, severe air quality concerns, prolonged emergency response operations and significant losses of communities, campgrounds, recreational areas and belongings.

Hundreds of vehicles weren’t driveable or even burned to the ground and so much of the town had burned down that it was hard to locate them, entire blocks of homes were gone. But even for vehicles or trailers that they could transfer for SGI appraisers to assess, safety reasons delayed tow partners and appraisers from being permitted on-site. Another factor was a lack of accommodations in fire-ravaged and more remote areas.

SGI’s Salvage team helped by providing haildamaged trailers for SGI employees to stay in while they gave on-the-ground claims and appraisal support to the impacted communities and campgrounds. SGI Salvage headed up the recovery efforts for the remains of the burned trailers, boats and vehicles by collaborating with external vendors who were already allowed to be on site to have damaged units and debris removed. It was in everyone’s best interest to work together to clear the sites quickly, allowing campgrounds and businesses to resume operations as soon as possible.

Thanks to this collaborative approach, customers and their communities were able to start the process of moving forward from their losses.

Our Salvage team has been a pioneer of automotive recycling in Canada for the past 75 years. Every year, the team stays very busy. They dispose of thousands of vehicles, motorcycles, and other recreational vehicles. They sell salvaged vehicles to the public. They dismantle vehicles that can’t be made road-worthy again and sell the parts. And they even sell the occasional SGI CANADA salvage property item.
