The Boyd Group’s Canadian operations hosted what organizers say was the largest I-CAR welding certification and steel sectioning certification event ever completed in Canada earlier this month, bringing dozens of technicians together in Ottawa for hands-on training focused on safe and proper repairs.
Held May 7 and 8 at Algonquin College, the event saw 17 technicians each day from across the Assured Automotive and Boyd Autobody & Glass network complete two key certifications: the I-CAR Steel GMA Welding Certification (ST025L) and the I-CAR Steel Sectioning Certification (ST105L).
The Boyd Group rented the college’s full welding lab for the sessions, while three I-CAR instructors travelled from across Ontario to lead the hands-on certifications and evaluations.
According to Alexandre Savard, TDP and technician training manager for the Boyd Group, the initiative reflects the growing importance of ongoing technical education and OEM repair compliance within the collision repair industry.
“I think this event represents something bigger than certifications alone,” said Savard. “It highlights the importance of continuing to invest in technician development, proper OEM repair procedures, and hands-on training to ensure vehicles are repaired safely, properly, and with integrity.”
The event marks another significant investment in technician training for Assured Automotive and Boyd Autobody & Glass as repair procedures continue evolving alongside modern vehicle technologies and materials.
