Ontario collision repairers may be eligible for Skills Development Fund support to attend I-CAR Canada’s five-day EV Hands-On Skills Development course in Milton.
The SDF rebate applies to the course fee only. Participants must meet program eligibility requirements and provide the required documentation. The Employment Ontario program is funded by the Government of Ontario.
I-CAR Canada launched the hands-on course in June 2026 at the CWB Innovation and Knowledge Centre in Milton. The Monday-to-Friday training runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Friday sessions ending by 3 p.m.
The course covers high-voltage shutdown and power-up, zero-potential verification, electrical safety testing, EV testing and measurement equipment, OEM repair procedures and determining when it is safe to work on high-voltage components.
The course is intended for collision repair technicians, EV repair technicians, shop owners and collision repair facilities building EV repair capability.
I-CAR Canada is also offering the eight required online prerequisite courses at no charge as part of a limited-time launch offer. Technicians must register for the prerequisites before Oct. 1, 2026, to receive the offer. The prerequisite courses are separate from the SDF-funded training and are not covered by the rebate.
The prerequisites cover electrical measurements and troubleshooting, EV inspection and handling, high-voltage safety, EV damage analysis and EV service considerations. Technicians with a Red Seal Certificate of Qualification may receive I-CAR equivalency credits for select prerequisite courses.
Certified Collision Care has selected the five-day course as the required hands-on training component of its EV Certification Program, supported by 13 OEM partners.
Training capacity is limited. Collision repairers can apply for the course and review SDF eligibility requirements through I-CAR Canada.
