3M has released an updated version of its 3M Hookit Blue Net Abrasives, aimed at improving dust extraction and durability in collision repair environments.
The new abrasive line, available in discs and sheet rolls, is designed to combine the dust control of net-based products with the cut performance typically associated with paper-backed abrasives. Grit options range from 80 to 400, targeting common applications such as sanding body filler, glaze and primer.
The abrasives use a ceramic and aluminum oxide mineral blend bonded to a net backing, enabling up to 95 per cent dust extraction when paired with systems such as the 3M™ Clean Sanding System. The open-net design is also intended to reduce loading during sanding.
“For automotive collision repair shops, the performance and durability of the abrasives they use can help fuel productivity and drive efficiency,” said Daniel Rodriguez, global portfolio manager, automotive aftermarket division at 3M. “With Blue Net Abrasives, your techs can use the same techniques and equipment they do today, and see results right away, especially in the coarser grades when sanding coatings like body filler or glaze. In addition, their increased durability means more work gets done with less.”
Additional updates include improved hook-and-loop attachment, increased edge retention and resistance to tearing on contoured surfaces. The company notes the revised design also delivers greater rigidity for more consistent performance across substrates.
3M Hookit Blue Net Abrasives are available in 3-inch, 5-inch, 6-inch and 8-inch discs, as well as 10-metre sheet rolls in 70-millimetre and 115-millimetre widths, through authorized distributors.
