The new Car-O-Liner AW-Tong gives the CTR9 resistance spot welder users a water-cooled, fully automatic option for weld areas that may be difficult to reach with standard C-arms.
Car-O-Liner, a collision repair equipment brand owned by Kenosha, Wis.-based Snap-on, released the accessory on July 20. The AW-Tong connects to existing CTR9 systems and uses the same welding parameters. No changes to the existing CTR9 workflow are required.
In automatic mode, the accessory calibrates itself before welding. It then measures the material type and thickness, selects the required parameters and records the results through the CTR9 control unit.
“With the AW-Tong, we have combined the speed and precision technicians expect from the CTR9 platform with a water-cooled, fully automatic system that keeps pace with high-volume bodyshop production,” said Doug Bortz, manager of collision sales for Car-O-Liner in North America.
“The swivelling, ergonomic handle lets a technician hold the tool in a comfortable position regardless of the repair angle, while calibration, thickness measurement and parameter selection are completed automatically.”
The AW-Tong uses a different electrode orientation from the CTR9 C-arms, allowing access to areas the arms cannot reach.
Water cooling supports continuous operation during heavier workloads and helps maintain consistent welding performance.
The CTR9 includes a lightweight transformer gun with a 355-degree swivelling handle. Separate adjustments for the welding arm and handle allow technicians to position the electrode while maintaining a comfortable grip.
The AW-Tong is available as an accessory for the Car-O-Liner CTR9 resistance spot welder.
