DriveON compliance: Structural measuring and records for Ontario bodyshops

Ontario bodyshop owners who want to inspect rebuilt salvage vehicles must operate through the province’s DriveON program. The old paper-based inspection system ended March 31, 2025.

“Stations that want to continue conducting vehicle safety inspections after March 31, 2025, must join the DriveON program,” Jennifer Elliott, director of Ontario’s Commercial Safety and Compliance Branch, wrote in a December 2024 memorandum.

Registration is only part of the job. Structural inspection centres must follow Schedule 5, Ontario’s directive covering inspection procedures, equipment and performance standards for salvage vehicles.

The stakes extend beyond getting a certificate issued. Geoff Wood, then senior vice-president of policy at the Ontario Trucking Association, described DriveON’s aim as bringing “accountability, transparency and a level playing field to the processes.” He made the comment in an April 2024 announcement about the commercial inspection rollout.

Structural measuring already had a place in Ontario’s inspection rules. Under the previous system, structural inspection stations needed equipment capable of measuring unibody and non-unibody vehicles in three dimensions. Operators also had to retain actual measurements and the manufacturer specifications used to assess them.

For shops reviewing that equipment, AccuVision-3D combines measuring capability with a record of the findings.

The Canadian-made system from Arslan Automotive Canada uses two cameras to track a handheld pointer. Technicians measure vehicle control points and compare their positions with dimensions in the Mitchell database.

The screen shows deviations in three dimensions, in millimetres. Green points are within specification. Red points are outside it. Technicians can save the results as PDFs, email them or print them for the repair file.

Measurements can cover upper and lower body structures, door and window openings, trunk openings and detached components. Vehicles can remain on a rack, bench, lift or floor.
