The Automotive Service Association and Revv hosted a webinar this week examining the growing role of artificial intelligence in collision and mechanical repair, with a focus on calibration accuracy and diagnostic procedures.
“The shops that win in this next phase won’t be the ones with the most tools – they’ll be the ones with the most disciplined process,” said Joel Adcock, director of strategic partnerships at Revv. “AI will amplify whatever system you already have, good or bad.”
The webinar examined how artificial intelligence is increasingly being used in estimating, diagnostics, telematics and repair planning, and emphasized that these tools depend on accurate repair data to function properly.
Speakers said ADAS features rely on precise calibration across multiple sensors and warned that vehicles can still be out of specification even when inspections show no diagnostic trouble codes.
The discussion also focused on the risks of missed calibrations, incomplete documentation and incorrect assumptions during the repair process, particularly as AI becomes more common in shop workflows.
Speakers warned that inaccurate repair data can affect AI-supported decisions and lead to the same errors being repeated across multiple repairs when procedures are not followed consistently.
