Toronto, Ontario -- CAVI will host a public webinar on September 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. ET to discuss an upcoming autonomous trucking initiative.
The session will focus on the Trans-Canada Autonomous Truck Demonstration Project , which proposes a 5,800-kilometre journey by a driverless truck from Halifax to Vancouver in 2028.
Presenters will outline the project’s business case, phased implementation strategy, and the regulatory and logistical challenges involved. An interactive portion of the webinar will invite feedback from attendees.
Led by the Canadian Automated Vehicles Initiative in collaboration with the Institute of Connected and Automated Vehicles, the demonstration aims to showcase Canada’s capacity to safely deploy long-distance automated freight transport technology.
The project involves coordinating with multiple jurisdictions, transport authorities and private-sector partners to enable a driverless heavy-duty vehicle to cross the country without on-board human intervention.
CAVI and ICAV say the initiative could position Canada as a global leader in automated freight transport and contribute to addressing chronic labour shortages in the long-haul trucking industry.
