Toronto, Ontario -- Earlier this week, an industry association representing numerous automotive-linked sectors released a statement outlining minimum collision repair standards across Canada.
The statement of minimum Canadian standards in collision repair, which was published by AIA Canada on September 18, 2025, outlines requirements in four areas: business practices, training, facilities and equipment and repair processes.
It calls for technicians to meet provincial apprenticeship and certification rules and for collision centres to ensure ongoing I-CAR training.
According to a press release, Jean-François Champagne, president and chief executive officer of AIA Canada, described the statement as a move that could improve the public's confidence in the collision sector.
“Our goal with these minimum standards is to create common ground for the industry, a shared benchmark that ensures Canadians can trust that their vehicles are being repaired safely, completely, and to the highest quality.”
According to the proposed standards, facilities would be expected to have the tools, training, equipment, and infrastructure necessary to complete advanced repairs, either on site or through qualified partners.
The standards also propose that all repairs follow manufacturer procedures, include pre- and post-repair scans, be documented through quality control processes and come with a limited lifetime workmanship warranty.
According to the association, the aim is to improve consistency and accountability across repair facilities as vehicles incorporate more advanced materials, electronics and advanced driver assistance systems.
The group said the standards are designed to give consumers greater confidence that repairs are being completed to safety and performance benchmarks.

The move was announced by Champagne at the Canadian Collision Industry Forum in Calgary.
In a social media post, he wrote: "Thanks to the members of our Collision Repairer Council for their leadership and support [--] Stephen Boyd, Sabrina Thring, Daryll O'Keefe, Rick Hatswell, Paul Prochilo [and] Ryan Bruno."'
