The Automotive Recyclers Association's committee chairs met last week to review ongoing initiatives, share updates and align work with the association’s strategic priorities and discuss certification, education, government affairs, communications and parts standards.
Shannon Nordstrom, the ARA's president and chair of the certification committee, reported it was developing a quality compliance program, which is now in the proof-of-concept phase.
Planning for ARA’s 2026 Convention & Expo in Atlanta was also discussed. Jessica Andrews, reporting on behalf of educational programming committee chair Natalie Miller, said the call for presentations is largely complete and program development is underway. Committee members also discussed potential adjustments to the event’s structure and scheduling.
On communications, Awareness Committee chair Amber Kendrick outlined ongoing outreach efforts, including social media campaigns and upcoming initiatives tied to industry events and awareness efforts. The committee is also working on longer-term projects related to member engagement and content development.
Technical updates were provided by Emily Yancey, ARA secretary and chair of the Interchange Committee. The committee reported updates to parts data systems, including expanded non-interchange options for certain components on PartsTrader and upcoming medium-duty interchange updates from Hollander for Ford vehicles, with additional applications expected.
The Interchange Committee is also addressing electric vehicle content. A subcommittee is working to incorporate EV-specific components into the Recycled Parts Guide.
Government affairs activity was also reviewed. Slater Shroyer, chair of the Government Affairs Committee, reported ongoing monitoring of legislative and regulatory developments across U.S. jurisdictions, along with preparations for ARA’s Hill Days advocacy event.
The meeting reflects ARA’s committee structure, which organizes member-led work across operational, technical and policy areas within the automotive recycling sector.
