Eric McDonald of Bodyline Auto Recyclers in Hamilton has been elected to the board of directors of the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association, following a vote by members at the group’s annual convention and trade show in Markham, held March 26–28.
The appointment adds an operator with experience across both yard operations and digital systems as the sector continues to evolve. Bodyline, founded in 1985 by McDonald’s father and uncle, now operates from a seven-acre, 80,000-square-foot facility and employs 60 staff.
“I am very pleased to welcome Eric McDonald from Bodyline Auto Recyclers to the OARA Board. The McDonald Family have always been strong supporters of our Association. I look forward to working alongside Eric as we continue to provide value for our membership by raising the Professional Automotive Recycler's image. Eric will bring new perspectives and thoughts to our strong Board,” said Greg Woodbeck, chairman of the association.
McDonald grew up in the business, working in dismantling, inventory and scrap processing before taking on broader responsibilities, including staffing and technology. He also learned purchasing at a young age by attending vehicle auctions with his uncle.
“Jim would take me to the Stouffville and Hamilton Auctions to help bid on cars. I'd just stand there with my arm in the air until my limit. It was a quick way to meet everyone in that part of the industry,” McDonald said.
Since moving into a full-time leadership role, the company has expanded from 15 employees to 60 and increased its processing volume by 500 to 800 vehicles per month.
McDonald’s election comes as the association continues its work to represent Ontario’s automotive recyclers and respond to changes in vehicle technology and parts distribution.
