Toronto, Ontario – PPG has released more details about its 2025 Colour of the Year, Purple Basil.
Described in a recent press release as “a dusty violet with mauve undertones,” for PPG, Purple Basil “reflects the movement away from lighter, airier hues in favour of deeper, richer colours.”
The coatings company continues that this year’s colour is positioned between a mid and dark tone.
“Multidimensional with depth and layers, Purple Basil has a touch of warmth from the red pigments in its composition. The result is a perfectly balanced colour—not too bold or too bright— that imparts a sense of serenity, comfort and elegance,” says the release.
“This year we have four different views of the Colour of the Year, which illustrates how our forecasts can be styled for different types of vehicle makes and models, regions or brands,” said Misty Yeomans, PPG colour styling manager, Americas, Automotive OEM Coatings.
“For example, our team in China styled Purple Basil as a more muted lavender in a matte finish—a great choice for a luxury sedan or SUV. In the U.S., the team styled a more vibrant and lighter version, adding a youthful energy that makes it a great choice for a sports model,” Yeoman concluded.
