Ol’ Faithful: Tesla has the most reliable EV chargers, says J.D. Power

Toronto, Ontario — Tesla has the most reliable EV chargers, according to J.D. Power’s latest E-Vision Intelligence Report.

According to J.D. Power’s data, 21.6 percent of EV drivers that visited non-Tesla public EV chargers stations in Q1 could not charge their vehicles. In Tesla’s Supercharger network, that number drops to just 3.9 percent (of drivers experiencing issues).

Tesla also has higher customer satisfaction scores when compared to other EV manufacturers’ own charging networks. Overall satisfaction with DC fast-charging among Tesla customers was ranked at 734 (out of 1,000). General Motors received 586; Ford, 544. The average for all other automakers was 558.

Another report, published by J.D. Power a week earlier, says that public charging infrastructure is among the top reasons consumers choose not to purchase an EV.

There are approximately 1,500 Tesla Superchargers in Canada and nearly 20,000 in the United States network.

Automakers Ford, General Motors, Volvo, Rivian and Polesar have all said that beginning in 2025, vehicles will come equipped with a Tesla connector, or the North American Charging Standard (NACS). This will allow their cars to plug into Superchargers without needing an adapter.
