eBay will prohibit the sale of airbags and airbag inflators on its platform effective Sept. 24, 2026, citing safety concerns following a review of the products.
The new policy applies to all sellers and covers the entire airbag category. Standalone airbags, airbag inflators or gas generators and steering wheel airbag covers will no longer be permitted to be listed or sold.
Sellers have 30 days to remove affected listings from their active, scheduled and draft inventories. eBay said listings that remain after the Sept. 24 deadline will be removed by the company.
The policy also affects several other airbag-related components, although restrictions vary by market.
Outside the United States, sellers can continue listing permitted components that do not contain an airbag or inflator, including airbag control units, crash or impact sensors, diagnostic modules and passenger sensors.
In the U.S., those components may only be sold by sellers who have been pre-approved by eBay.
eBay said sellers who remove affected listings themselves, or whose listings are removed by eBay as part of the policy change, will not face a negative impact on their account's policy compliance history. However, relisting prohibited items could result in selling restrictions.
The company is advising sellers to review their current and scheduled listings before the deadline and remove any affected products.
The change could be relevant to collision repair businesses, dismantlers and other automotive parts sellers that use online marketplaces to sell used or surplus safety-system components.
eBay said the decision follows a comprehensive review of the risks the products may pose to users. The company directed sellers to its Vehicle Related Policy for additional information.
