The Automotive Recyclers Association has released a new video training series aimed at standardizing how recycled auto parts are prepared and shipped, turning a detailed industry guideline into step-by-step instruction for use on the shop floor.
Hosted by board member Emily Yancey of Yancey Auto Parts in Missouri (pictured), the series is based on the parts preparation and shipping guidelines developed jointly by the ARA with United Recyclers Group and Team PRP. The guidelines set out a single framework for how parts should be handled before leaving a recycling facility.
United Recyclers Group is a U.S.-based network that supports recyclers with procurement, sales and operations, while Team PRP is a North American group focused on supplying higher-quality recycled parts into repair and insurance channels.
The guidelines standardize the full process, requiring recyclers to verify parts against work orders and interchange, inspect for damage and completeness, drain fluids, secure and protect components, clean parts to a usable condition, clearly tag and identify them and package them using defined pallet, bracing and boxing methods to prevent damage in transit and ensure safe handling and accurate delivery.
The videos are structured as part-specific modules, covering categories including engines, transmissions, body panels, electronics and suspension components. Each walks through the same core steps: verifying the part, inspecting condition, preparing and cleaning it, tagging and identifying it and packaging it for shipment.
