Toronto, Ontario – In this weekly electronic and autonomous vehicle report, Ford files a patent for a vehicle warning system that would tell an EV if there was an object near a charging station; while Tesla offers full-self-driving outside of the United States and Canada for the first time.

Ford recently filed a patent application for a system that would warn electric vehicles of objects near chargers.
Published on February 11th, 2025, the patent application specifically describes a system in which “a stationary node computer, including a first processor and memory processor could be coupled to the charging station.”
This process would allow the vehicle to “identify an object detected in the areas in data from one or more of the stationary sensors, to be traced with respect to the vehicle.”
While there is no guarantee that this technology will ever make it to the manufacturing stage, the patent does present one potential solution to the issue of detecting objects or malfunctions in EV charging spaces such as other vehicles occupying the space or maintenance materials.
Making way in Mexico
Tesla has announced that for the first time, its full-self-driving (FSD) software is available outside of Canada and the United States, this time in Mexico.
As noted in online reports, Tesla vehicles in Mexico will be able to use the same service currently available for vehicles running the software in the rest of North America.
Tesla owners in Mexico took to social media following the update to share the news, with Tesla’s AI X account posting, “¡Hola México!”
