The Équité Association has tapped industry veteran Heather Masterson as its new president and chief executive officer, succeeding retiring inaugural chief Terri O'Brien.
Operating as a national not-for-profit authority supporting Canadian property and casualty insurers, Équité focuses on protecting consumers and reducing fraud across vehicle, property, and cargo sectors by deploying advanced analytics and collaborating directly with law enforcement and industry partners.
Masterson steps into the role with more than three decades of experience in the Canadian property and casualty insurance sector, most recently serving as president and CEO of Travelers Canada. Having previously sat on Équité’s board of directors as a founding member, she inherits an organization established to combat insurance crime through advanced analytics, intelligence sharing, and coordinated investigations.
Paul Johnstone, chair of Équité’s board of directors and president of Chubb Insurance Company of Canada, praised the transition, stating, "Having served on our Board, Heather brings great insight into the association along with an exceptional track record in Canadian P&C insurance leadership. She is uniquely equipped to advance the strong foundation built by Équité’s inaugural President and CEO, Terri O'Brien".
Johnstone also acknowledged O'Brien's impact, noting, "Terri’s vision for Équité helped to transform how our industry collaborates to fight insurance crime in Canada".
Reflecting on her appointment, Masterson said, "I am honoured to step into the role of President & CEO at Équité Association and look forward to building upon the vital work of combatting insurance fraud and crime across Canada."
O'Brien departs after guiding the organization through its formative growth since its inception, noting, "It has been an incredible honour to lead Équité Association as its inaugural President and CEO... We have built something that never existed before in Canada, backed by a team truly dedicated to positive culture and shared success."
