Crash Test City: Montreal’s most collision-prone boroughs found downtown

montreal

Montreal, Quebec – Whether you speak English, French or another language, almost every driver has stories of close calls with more reckless road users. In the case of urban areas, reckless driving can quickly translate into fatalities.

Unlike Toronto and Vancouver where collisions are most common at connectors to adjacent cities, collisions in Montreal generally center around the downtown core.

These are the ten most dangerous Boroughs in Montreal, according to fatal collision data collected by Vision Zero between 2019 and 2021.

  • Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (44 collisions)
  • Ville-Marie (41 collisions)
  • Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension (37 collisions)
  • Le Plateau Mont-Royal (35 collisions)
  • Ahuntsic-Cartierville (35 collisions)
  • Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (33 collisions)
  • Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie (24 collisions)
  • Montréal-Nord (24 collisions)
  • Le Sud-Ouest (15 collisions)
  • Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles (14 collisions)

In total, there were 458 fatal collisions in Montreal between 2019 to 2021. While the infographic does not reflect non-fatal collisions, French speakers with knowledge of data cleaning can visit this link from Montreal Open Data.
