Honda is facing a class-action lawsuit in Quebec filed in August 2026 for defective white paint that peels and delaminates on vehicles from 2013 to present, including the Accord, Civic, CR-V, and Acura models, with owners seeking compensation for repair costs and damages up to $7,000 per vehicle.

Honda is facing a class-action lawsuit for peeling white paint, and the lawsuit filed in the Superior Court of Quebec marks the second time claims have been filed against Honda in Canada, as the automaker, in addition to Nissan, Hyundai and Kia are all facing similar class-action lawsuits.
Attorney David Assor from Lex Group, a Montreal-based law firm, filed the suit on Aug. 6, 2026, “on behalf of all persons in Quebec who purchased, leased and/or owned a white-painted Honda or Acura vehicle, in all model years from 2013 to the present,” Lex Group’s case summary stated, and includes the following:*
- Acura MDX
- Honda Accord
- Honda Civic
- Honda CR-V
- Honda Fit
- Honda HR-V
- Honda Odyssey
- Honda Pilot
*Applicable to vehicles painted with one of the following colours (and corresponding paint codes):
- White Diamond Pearl (NH-603P)
- Taffeta White (NH-578)
- White Orchid Pearl / Bellanova White (NH-788P)
- Platinum White Pearl (NH-883P)
A similar class-action lawsuit, Sunita Rani Sharma v. Honda, has been filed in British Columbia. Daunais v. Honda Canada Inc., also relating to Honda and Acura clear coat and paint failure, was authorized in 2019 in the Superior Court of Quebec and settled in 2022 for nearly $27 million.
The lawsuit filed by Lex Group alleges that “HONDA marketed, promoted, distributed, leased, and sold to Class Members the Subject Vehicles, which were defective in design and manufacture; specifically, that the Subject Vehicles all suffer from a Paint Defect causing peeling, delamination, blistering, and/or premature and inevitable deterioration of the factory-applied white exterior paint coating, during the normal, reasonably foreseeable useful life of the Subject Vehicles.”
Allegedly, the defective white paint affects the vehicles’ function, safety, usability and long-term value, as the bodywork becomes exposed to moisture and salt, creating an increased risk of rust and premature corrosion, possibly leading to structural damage. Moreover, the paints named in the lawsuit are “tri-coat” paints, which are generally more expensive than standard paints.
Accordingly, Lex Group is seeking reimbursement for repair costs, per-owner damages of $1,000 for emotional distress, $1,000 for concealing defects at the time of sale and up to $5,000 in punitive and exemplary damages.
