Call2Recycle Canada and Earth Rangers are expanding their battery recycling education eff orts through new digital and classroom initiatives aimed at Canadian youth. The organizations recently celebrated winners of the 2025 Battery Blitz contest, where more than 80 schools across Ontario, Alberta and Prince Edward Island collected nearly 17,000 kilograms of used batteries for recycling. Since launching in 2015, the program has diverted more than 140,000 kilograms of batteries from landfills. New eff orts include YouTube videos, podcasts, student workbooks and school assemblies expected to reach more than 250,000 students annually.

The Yukon government received no bids for a contract to remove and recycle abandoned vehicles from four rural waste sites, highlighting ongoing challenges around end-of-life vehicle recycling in the North. The tender covered the depollution, transport and recycling of ELVs in Tagish, Champagne, Destruction Bay and Pelly Crossing. Territorial briefing notes point to high transportation costs as a major barrier, while a 2018 estimate projected Yukon could see 10,000 end-of-life vehicles by 2036. Off icials say improperly abandoned vehicles pose environmental risks if hazardous fluids are not removed.

Eric McDonald of Bodyline Auto Recyclers in Hamilton has joined the board of directors for the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association following a vote at the group’s annual convention in Markham. McDonald grew up in the family business, gaining experience in dismantling, inventory, scrap processing and vehicle purchasing before moving into leadership roles focused on staff ing and technology. Since taking on a full-time leadership position, Bodyline has expanded from 15 employees to 60 and increased processing volume to roughly 800 vehicles monthly. OARA says McDonald brings valuable operational and technology experience to the board.
