Ontario’s auto recycling community is remembering Chris Sutherland, the former owner of Car-go Auto Recyclers in North Bay, Ont., and a longtime member of the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association.
Sutherland built Car-go Auto Recyclers after moving to North Bay in 1990. He operated the business for nearly three decades before selling it in 2019.
His reputation in the industry was tied closely to the way he ran the business. Its motto, “People are more important than profit,” reflected the personal approach remembered by family, friends and colleagues.
Fletcher said Sutherland, known to many as Nice Guy Chris, had been involved with OARA from its early years and remained connected to the association after leaving the business. He attended OARA events for years after the sale of Car-go, including the association’s 2025 convention in Niagara Falls.
In his note to members, Fletcher remembered Sutherland as “a big guy with a big heart” and said he was “hard to miss — especially when you heard that gravelly voice call out.”
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 17 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Southshore Church in North Bay. The funeral will also be held at Southshore Church on Thursday, June 18 at 11 a.m.
