Retirement of Steve Fletcher and appointment of new leadership position the national association for continued growth
The year 2025 marked a period of significant change for the Automotive Recyclers of Canada.
Long-time executive director Steve Fletcher retired from day-to-day operations after helping launch the association in 1995 and guiding it through both challenging and highly active periods. Under his leadership, ARC built a strong national reputation, developed valuable programs and established a solid financial foundation for both the national body and its provincial member associations.
Fletcher continues to support ARC on key projects, including ensuring a smooth transition to new executive director Wally Dingman. Securing Dingman’s leadership was a major success for the association in 2025 and positions ARC well for the years ahead. Dingman is no stranger to the organization, having served as ARC chairman for more than a decade. He also worked closely with Fletcher on the boards of ARC and the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association, a collaboration that continues in their new roles.
Together, the two bring complementary strengths to the association. Dingman offers more than 30 years of experience as a working auto recycler and a firsthand understanding of industry challenges, while Fletcher contributes deep knowledge and connections across the national, continental and global auto recycling landscape. Their continued collaboration is already producing positive results.
Looking ahead, 2026 is expected to be another strong year for ARC. Dingman brings energy, passion and a fresh perspective on issues that matter most to auto recyclers. The ARC board has been reinvigorated and is committed to supporting the association’s evolving direction, with a focus on practical programs and information that benefit recyclers across the country.
Members will begin to see these initiatives take shape over the coming years, including within the pages of Canadian Auto Recycler magazine.
ARC also extends its appreciation to Media Matters, publisher of Canadian Auto Recycler, for more than 20 years of industry coverage. The publication’s in-depth and personal reporting on professional auto recycling has been an important resource for the sector.

L'année 2025 a marqué une période de changements importants pour l'Association des recycleurs automobiles du Canada.
Steve Fletcher, directeur général de longue date, a pris sa retraite des activités quotidiennes après avoir contribué au lancement de l'association en 1995 et l'avoir guidée à travers des périodes difficiles et très actives. Sous sa direction, l'ARC s'est forgé une solide réputation nationale, a développé des programmes précieux et a établi une base financière solide tant pour l'organisme national que pour ses associations provinciales membres. M. Fletcher continue de soutenir l'ARC dans des projets clés, notamment en assurant une transition en douceur vers le nouveau directeur général, Wally Dingman. Le recrutement de M. Dingman à la direction a été un succès majeur pour l'association en 2025 et place l'ARC en bonne position pour les années à venir.
M. Dingman n'est pas un inconnu pour l'organisation, puisqu'il a occupé le poste de président de l'ARC pendant plus d'une décennie. Il a également travaillé en étroite collaboration avec M. Fletcher au sein des conseils d'administration de l'ARC et de l'Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association, une collaboration qui se poursuit dans leurs nouvelles fonctions.
