Just Like the Simulation: ICBC launches Street Sense interactive driving app

Victoria, British Columbia — ICBC has officially entered the interactive space with the launch of the government insurer’s new driving simulation and training tool, Street Sense, available now on Steam and mobile app stores.

For its first foray into what arguably borders on the world of gaming, ICBC has unveiled an app that puts users behind the wheel in 15 different realistic driving scenarios that test one’s ability to follow the flow of traffic, monitor blindspots for cyclists and pedestrians and perform accurate turns.

“With more British Columbians getting their driver’s license than ever before, we encourage new drivers to use the Street Sense app as another tool to gain experience detecting hazards and keep them and others safe while behind the wheel,” said ICBC’s v-p of customer experience and public affairs, Lindsay Matthews.

According to ICBC, novice drivers are 1.5 times more likely to crash than experienced drivers are, and since 2020, the number of drivers obtaining their learner’s license in B.C. has increased by 24 percent. ICBC defines anyone over the age of 25 with at least 5 years of driving experience as an experienced driver.

ICBC’s Street Sense driving simulation app is currently available on Steam for desktops and the Google Play Store and Apple App Store for mobile devices.
