ConsuLab, the Quebec City-based manufacturer of motive-power training equipment, has completed its acquisition of PoweredEV Ltd., the Nova Scotia electric-vehicle training and consulting firm founded by David Giles, the companies announced this month.
Under the deal, PoweredEV will fully transition to the ConsuLab brand over the coming weeks. Giles said in a LinkedIn post announcing the sale that the move gives ConsuLab its first dedicated presence in Nova Scotia, including a new research and development centre and training facility.
"This is an exciting next step for both companies," Giles, PoweredEV's founder, said in a statement released by ConsuLab. "Under the ConsuLab brand, PoweredEV's operation will continue to support instructors, teachers, and students with innovative educational products and training solutions for the trades."
ConsuLab, founded in 1969 with operations in Quebec City and Newark, Delaware, builds training systems for automotive, truck and heavy-equipment, electric and hybrid vehicle, and hydraulics programs used by schools worldwide. In its own announcement, the company said PoweredEV will become a dedicated hub within its operations for turning emerging motive-power technologies into practical training tools, and that the deal brings PoweredEV's staff and expertise in-house.
Giles, a Red Seal-certified automotive service technician with more than 30 years in the trade, founded PoweredEV in 2023 after previously co-founding ALL EV Canada, an electric-vehicle retailer he sold to Steele Auto Group in 2021. He has since been named to the Top 100 Innovators and Entrepreneurs list, sits on the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency's board, and had already been representing ConsuLab as an EV education specialist for at least two years before the acquisition closed — pointing to a partnership that predated the formal purchase.
Neither company disclosed the deal's financial terms.
