Vancouver, B.C. -- The Automotive Retailers Association is closing applications for the 2025 Pedal Car Challenge, a province-wide initiative aimed at introducing high school students to careers in the automotive trades.
Building on the success of previous years, the program continues to engage youth through hands-on experience in vehicle design and customization.
In the 2024 challenge, seven schools participated, each receiving a toy pedal car to design, modify and paint. The initiative provided students with practical exposure to automotive trades, fostering interest in the industry. Industry partners, including BASF, Color Compass Corporation, CARSTAR and Craftsman Collision, supported the program by supplying materials and mentorship.
For 2025, the ARA has expanded the program, with schools like Pleasant Valley Secondary and Correlieu Secondary joining the challenge.
Students will work on their pedal cars throughout the school year, culminating in presentations at industry events. The program emphasizes collaboration between schools and local collision repair shops, providing students with real-world insights into the trade.
The Pedal Car Challenge not only equips students with technical skills but also aims to address the industry's labour shortages by inspiring the next generation of automotive professionals. The ARA encourages collision repair facilities to participate by offering mentorship and resources to participating schools.
