The honour rollers: finalists for the Montreal International Auto Show named

Montreal, Quebec — January 22, 2018 — The finalists for the Montreal International Auto Show 2018 Canadian Car of the Year and Utility Vehicle of the Year have been revealed.

Drawn from category winners, the fourteen finalists represent seven manufacturers. Mazda and Jaguar Land Rover have received three nominations, while Honda, Chrysler and Volkswagen each earned two.

The winners are to be announced on February 15, at the beginning of the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto.

100 members of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) voted in the winners, scoring the vehicles based on a variety of qualities including performance, technology, design, fuel consumption and monetary value.
 
“Our journalists are all experts in their automotive fields,” said AJAC President Mark Richardson  “I’m very proud of their ability to help people decide on the best new vehicles to buy in 2018.”

The 14 vehicles listed below are eligible for the 2018 Canadian Car of the Year or Utility Vehicle of the Year, to be chosen by the AJAC voters after a second ballot.

Best city car: Volkswagen e-Golf

Best small car: Mazda3

Best large car: Honda Accord

Best small premium car: Jaguar XE
 
Best large premium car: Volvo S90 / V90

Best sports or performance car: Volkswagen Golf R

Best premium sports or performance car: Jaguar F-TYPE

Best convertible: Mercedes-Benz SL
