Ottawa, Ontario — April 25, 2017 — A fire at an Ottawa autobody facility on Gladstone Ave. was severe enough for fire crews to close the street as they battled the two-alarm blaze.

Witnesses reported that flames were visible coming from the shop’s exhaust system on the roof of the building. Other witnesses reported seeing plumes of smoke from Highway 417, located almost half a kilometer away from the scene. No injuries have been reported.

Firefighters were called to the fire at Scotty’s Auto Body around 1:15 p.m. Monday afternoon after receiving multiple 911 calls. Ottawa Fire Services reports that crews were able to bring the fire under control by about 1:45 p.m.

A statement from Ottawa Fire Services describes fighting the blaze as an “aggressive offensive attack.” Firefighters removed the shop’s exhaust system both to access the fire and to try to prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

Estimates of the damage have not been released.
