Power Through: Porsche Taycan beats cross-country charging time by nearly five hours

New York, New York — On Jan. 28, the Guinness World Records™ officially recognized Wayne Gerdes for crossing the United States with the shortest charging time – two and a half hours, beating the previous record of 7 hours and 10 minutes.

Travelling from Los Angeles, California to New York City, Gerdes covered over 2,800 miles in a 2021 Porsche Taycan.

To qualify for the world record attempt, Gerdes noted every stop with independent witnesses for each charge. His route was filmed, tracked via GPS then vetted by a panel of adjudicators before the record could be accepted.

According to Porsche, Gerdes used Plug Share and the Electrify America app to plan his route across nationwide Electrify America’s network of direct charging and combined charging systems.

“I’m proud and honestly a little surprised to have set the new benchmark by such a margin,” Gerdes said.  “The first time I charged on a 350KW charger, [a] a to 82 percent occurred in just 22 minutes.”
