Toronto, Ontario – The Canadian Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) is reportedly pushing for a probe into Tesla, claiming that the automaker falsely filed for $43 million in electric vehicle incentives in a single weekend.
Notably, according to publicly available government data, from January 10th to the 12th, 2024, four Tesla stores with postal codes linked to addresses across the country claimed approximately 8,600 sales following the government’s announcement that the rebate program would be paused when it ran out of funds.
In a report originally released by the Toronto Star, the news source further notes that individual locations also claimed over 2,000 sales in a single day, despite follow-up information revealing that this was not accurate.
As a result of the alleged misinformation, CADA is now calling on Transport Canada, asking the organization to conduct a full investigation into whether or not the rebate funds were actually properly claimed.
