OE Shocker: Ford, Kia issue recalls for EV defects

Untitled design

Toronto, Ontario- In more recent setbacks for the EV industry, Ford and Kia have both issued recalls for various defects amongst popular electric vehicle brands.

Ford has recalled 2,900 of its F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks due to a software issue which can result in an inadequate warning of low tire pressure. The models affected come from the 2022 line of vehicles. Low tire pressure can result in poor handling, a loss of vehicle control and an increased risk of a crash. Only 220 vehicles are estimated to be in the Canadian market.

Kia, on the other hand, has recalled approximately 17,200 of its Kia Sorento Hybrid (2020, 2021) and Hybrid Plug-in (2022) vehicles due to a defect which could cause the seatbelt pretensioner to explode towards the vehicle’s occupants. This can result in potential injury due to metal fragments hitting occupants.

These recalls represent continued setbacks in the EV market, one which has had a hard time getting vehicles on roads, and apparently, keeping those vehicles on them.
