Ingersoll, Ontario — More EV work is on its way to Ontario as General Motors BrightDrop announced that its new line of electric delivery trucks are set to be assembled at the CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll.

Unifor, Canada’s largest private sector union, voiced its satisfaction with the announcement.

“Our highly skilled members at CAMI are the best fit to deliver large scale production of both models of GM’s zero-emission electric delivery vehicles and meet increasing global demand,” said Unifor national president Jerry Dias.

CAMI plant chair Mike Van Boekel says that his workers feel a sense of pride in assembling emissions-free vehicles.

“We know worldwide demand for front-door delivery is growing exponentially. Our members are proud to step up and build the next generation of vehicles that will help reduce carbon emissions and meet the needs of our rapidly changing economy.”

In January General Motors announced a $1 billion investment to transform the CAMI assembly plant into Canada’s first mass-market producer of electric commercial vans.
