Repairers have been asked to stop work on a white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter sought in a fatal hit-and-run investigation in Vaughan, Ont.

York Regional Police identified the suspect vehicle as a 2020–2022 Sprinter in an appeal issued on Oct. 16.

Investigators are asking anyone who has worked on the van, or is currently repairing it, to contact the Major Collision Investigation Unit.

The appeal follows a collision on Oct. 4. A woman walking north on Pine Valley Drive from Major Mackenzie Drive was struck by a northbound vehicle at approximately 8:30 p.m. The driver fled.

Debris recovered at the scene has been confirmed as belonging to a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

Security footage shows the suspect vehicle entering a subdivision near Balantyne Road and Pine Valley Drive shortly after the collision. Investigators have released the footage but have not located the van.

Police warned that anyone who conceals, repairs or alters a vehicle to help a suspect avoid detection may face criminal charges. This includes bodywork, painting and mechanical work intended to hide collision damage.

Repairers with information can call 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704.
