A Finnish abrasives and surface-finishing systems manufacturer, Mirka, is partnering with a U.S. plastic repair company, 4Plastic to expand access to OEM-compatible plastic repair systems in the collision repair industry.
Announced May 12, the partnership will combine Mirka’s distribution network with 4Plastic’s repair materials, tools, training and technical support. According to the companies' officials, the initiative is intended to provide collision repair facilities with access to plastic repair systems that have largely been limited to large MSOs and specialized repair networks.
The partnership will include specialty plastic repair products, technician training and certification, technical support and repair guidance, and industry referral partnerships.
According to a press release, the repair methods are designed to restore damaged plastic automotive components, including bumpers, to OEM-level performance. The approach is intended to reduce reliance on filler- and adhesive-heavy repair methods and allow repaired parts to perform and flex as originally designed.
According to the release, broader use of plastic repair can reduce replacement-part use, increase labour operations for repair facilities and reduce delays tied to parts availability.
Mirka, headquartered in Jeppo, Finland, manufactures abrasives, sanding systems, polishing technologies and dust-free finishing systems for the collision repair, manufacturing and woodworking sectors. 4Plastic develops plastic repair products, tools and OEM-compatible repair processes for collision repair operations.
